Success in education is essential for work, social equality and economic growth - highly qualified specialists are therefore indispensable for our society. The European Union defines one of its core aims as guiding at least 40% of the young generation towards a tertiary qualification. In addition, it aims to reduce the number of dropouts in higher education.
According to calculations in the university information system (HIS) from 2012, c. 28% of all students in Germany did not complete their degree programme. This is often interpreted as failure on the part of the student as well as in the higher education system.

However, dropping out of university can also be a positive decision, especially when the students realise that higher education is not right for them at that moment or the subject they were studying did not suit them. These students are generally well-qualified, and their potential in the labour market is often underestimated and therefore not adequately used.

Based on this situation, the EU project "PrevDrop" aims at developing different measures and products to, on the one hand, help students who are at risk of dropping out of their studies to successfully complete their programme and, on the other, support students who cannot or do not wish to complete their studies with individual counselling with study advisors to aid their transfer to some form of professional training.
