Project lead
Prof. Dr. Michaela Schulze

Project duration
2021 – 2023

Project Description

All countries are facing huge challenges on the labour market due to the Corona crisis. The consequences and future perspectives cannot be foreseen. The effects of the current crisis are relevant in the context of active labour market policies in different countries. In the last 20 years, countries have tried to reform and redesign active labour market policies towards more emphasis on employment as a condition for receiving unemployment or welfare benefits (that means activation, workfare- or welfare-to-work policies). Under the present circumstances, the sustainability of the paradigm of the active (activating) labour market policies must be questioned.
The international project aims at stability and change in national active labour market policies during and after the current crisis. In Corona times, this topic is relevant and very present both for international academic debates as well as for the administrative authorities like the National Employment Agency.
