Course Structure

The Master degree programme in Labour Market-Oriented Counselling is completed as a part-time course. The standard period of study is five semesters. The course extends over four semesters, with the Master dissertation being written and presented in the fifth semester.nbsp;

A total of 120 ECTS credits can be achieved upon successful completion of the Master degree programme, with one ECTS credit corresponding to 25 student working hours. Of the 120 ECTS credits, 20 ECTS credit are allocated to the Master dissertation and 2 ECTS credits to the Master colloquium. The remaining 98 ECTS credits are covered by the compulsory and elective modules on offer. There are compulsory modules (P) and elective modules (WP) within the programme. Compulsory modules are compulsory for all students. In the case of elective modules, students must choose from a range of options.

The structure of the degree programme stipulates that students build up basic knowledge in each of the three perspectives by taking all the modules offered in the first year of study and then choosing two perspectives as specialisations from the third semester onwards. This means that students take five modules worth 5 ECTS credits each in semesters 1 and 2. In semesters 3 and 4, students only have to choose four modules per semester, which then each comprise 6 ECTS credits.

Students choose one of the specialisations chosen in the second year of study as a major specialisation by tailoring the structure of Module 15: Research Methods and Module 20: Research Project with one of the specialisation perspectives. The study sequences resulting from these options for specialisation and in-depth study are attached to the study and examination regulations for the Master degree programme.

An academic and practice-orientated combination of the course content takes place in the fourth semester. On the one hand, in Module 16: International Theory-Practice Transfer, students get to know a foreign organisation operating in the labour market and have the opportunity to reflect on all the skills they have developed in a practical context. On the other hand, in Module 20: Research Project, either a complex counselling situation is analysed within the interdisciplinary research project with the help of the specialist and methodological skills developed and designed in a transdisciplinary manner through project-based group work or a specific issue in the field of labour market-oriented counselling is dealt with as a disciplinary research project.

The degree programme is completed in the fifth semester with the Master thesis (module 21) and the Master colloquium (module 22). The Master thesis earns 20 ECTS credits and the Master colloquium earns 2 ECTS credits.
