Course Content

The Master programme in Labour Market-Oriented Counselling is an academic examination of the field of counselling, incorporating a variety of different disciplinary approaches. At the HdBA, these are specifically economics and social sciences, educational sciences and psychology, as well as law.

Professional counselling is a structured communication process which takes place seamlessly between the personal and professional spheres. The counselling process focuses on individuals, groups, organisations or networks. These may include employees, employer organisations and political decision-makers. Clients are surrounded by reference systems that influence them directly or indirectly. In labour market-oriented counselling, education and the employment system, the labour market and labour market policy are particularly important.

During the course of their studies, students acquire advisory skills in the areas of "Education and Career", "Labour Market and Labour Market Policy" and "Management and Leadership". All three fields of study are linked to the areas of counselling. Graduates are able to provide professional counselling with the aid of content and process-oriented concepts and academic methods by applying disciplinary knowledge in a cross-disciplinary manner and linking it to practical applications.

• Supporting an organisation active in the labour market as an expert in the key topics of labour market and labour market policy, management and leadership as well as education and career.
• Targeted management of employees of an organisation active in the labour market to promote professionalism in counselling.
• Academic evaluation, further and new development of tools and measures of the National Employment Agency and monitoring of implementation.

An internship overseas in the fourth semester enables students to deepen their expertise in labour market-oriented counselling in the context of foreign labour markets. In addition, the research project to be completed in the fourth semester forms the basis for writing the Master dissertation in the fifth semester.
