Overview
The further edcuation module Advanced Counselling Skills has been offered by the University of Applied Labour Studies (HdBA) since December 2020. It is part of the certificate programme Professional Counselling, which consists of one compulsory and two elective modules. Participation in the compulsory module (employer-side counselling certification) Advanced Counselling Skills is a prerequisite for permanent transfer or for fulfilling the requirement for permanent transfer to the position of career counsellor at the BA or counsellor for professional rehabilitation and participation</strong.
The Advanced Counselling Skills module extends from the contents of the BA's counselling concept and enables the participants - depending on their experience in counselling - to deepen their knowledge as well as strengthen their self-reflection and case-reflection skills>. Both academically based and practice-oriented, the skills for orientation and decision-making counselling are developed here.
The module began in December 2022 on an on-going basis. The dates are announced by the respective regional office. In-person sessions for the programme take place in educational institutes, conference facilities, agencies or in other locations.
Selection and Admission
The selection and registration of participants at the HdBA is carried out by the regional offices. Speculative applications will not be considered by the HdBA.
After registration through the regional offices, participants receive access to the learning platform ILIAS and are asked to submit their admission documents . Admission by the university is required to take part in the course and also the examination in the form of a colloquium (skills assessment) at the end of the module.

Course Content
The Advanced Counselling Skills module extends from the contents of the BA's counselling concept and enables the participants – depending on their experience in counselling – to deepen their knowledge as well as strengthen their self-reflection and their case-reflection skills. Both academically based and practice-oriented, the skills for orientation and decision-making counselling are developed here. In addition, participants are provided with the necessary tools to improve their own professionalism. The basis of the certificate programme is a skills profile that was developed by the BA in collaboration with the HdBA as part of the new activity and competency profile (TUK) "Market and Integration Counsellor at the BA".
In six part-modules, participants gain a variety of skills to be able to support customers in individual career planning and decision-making as well as in the strength-based assessment of individual skills and requirements.

Course Structure
The module "Advanced Counselling Skills" is a work-related qualification. Both the in-person sessions as well as the accompanied self-study (including examination preparation) count as working time.
The module lasts six months (up to 12 months in part-time) with the amount of work (totalling) 125 hours per person. The compulsory module is blended learning and consists of the learning elements of individual assessment, knowledge transfer, practical application, supervision and reflection.
The module is structured such that topics and related tasks are developed in the form of a portfolio that is directly linked to the participants' own daily work. One special focus is on the counsellor's ability to reflect on their personal development in terms of knowledge, capabilities and approach and to justify further learning objectives. A colloquium is carried out at the end ofthe further education module. In this meeting, the prepared topics are looked at in greater depth.
